MOSES
A. "BY FAITH MOSES, WHEN HE WAS COME TO YEAS, REFUSED TO BE CALLED
THE SON OF PHARAOH'S DAUGHTER, CHOOSING RATHER TO SUFFER
AFFLICTION WITH THE PEOPLE OF GOD, THAN ENJOY THE PLEASURE OF SIN
FOR A SEASON" - HEBREWS 11:24-25
- The life story of Moses:
- Is still another star in the galaxy of living faith in action
- His story is developed by degrees, covering centuries
- It dramatizes living faith and its implications
- We can only touch a few high points of the life of one of the greatest of all Bible
heroes:
- It is dramatic from the time of his birth to his resurrection from the dead
- It portrays the human as well as the spiritual experiences of that great man
B. THE MAN MOSES:
- His birth:
- Was born to parents that were slaves in Egypt
- Under forbidding circumstances; yet under the guidance of divine providence - Ex. 1:2
- Even in his birth he became a prototype of the Son of man - Matt. 2:1-16
- His early training:
- Was guided by his mother Jochebed - Ex. 2:1-10
- Became the basis of his memorable and immortal decisions which affect his nation and indirectly all mankind - Heb. 11:24-28
- His sojourn in the land of Median:
- Was a continuation of his training for his job to become the shepherd and deliverer of his nation
- He spent forty years in Median to unlearn the philosophy of Egypt and to become the meek and successful shepherd of a nation
- His manyfold leadership:
- God used him to emancipate his people - Ex. 3:4
- He became one of the greatest lawgivers of all times - Exodus and Leviticus
C. FOUR GREAT OBJECT LESSONS FROM THE LIFE STORY OF THE MAN MOSES
- God guides the destiny of His children from the cradle to eternity:
- This truth is beautifully demonstrated in the story of Moses - one of the greatest witnesses of the truth
- No power on earth can frustrate the purpose of God in our life, save it be we ourselves; Examples: The tribe of Dan, as well as Ephraim frustrated God's plan from them through persistent apostasy; Ancient Israel, those who left Egypt, prevented God by rebellion against him
- There are no limits to one's usefulness to God and humanity if and when we
allow God to work out His plan in us:
- This is fully illustrated in the rich life of the man Moses
- It is true that he was not allowed to lead the people into the promised land; because of dishonoring the Lord at a time when he should have glorified Him
- God has, in the life of Moses, and still does in the lives of His children, use His
own methods and means to bring about the accomplishment of His purpose:
- This He did by placing the child Moses into the house of Pharaoh
- By sending him to the land of Median to be a shepherd for many years
- By allowing him to be tried more than any other man to develop meekness in his soul - Num. 12:3
- By refusing him to enter the promised land, though he allowed him to see it before he died
- By raising his servant from the dead and so making him the representative of those who fall asleep in Jesus - Matt. 17:1-5
- Best of all, if this is possible:
- What God did for and through Moses, He can and will do for any of His children
- To be able to see the hand of God in my brief and unworthy life fills my heart with humility and deep gratitude - it is wonderful
