NOAH

A. "NOAH WAS A JUST MAN AND PERFECT IN HIS GENERATION AND NOAH WALKED WITH GOD" - GEN. 6:9
  1. Here we have the inspired testimony about Noah:
    1. At a time when moral corruption filled the hearts and lives of the descendants of Adam
    2. At a time when infidelity was the science of the day
  2. The man Noah:
    1. Stood out as a beacon light against immorality
    2. One who sought to stem the tide of violence in the earth; He truly walked with God
B. THE LIFE OF JUST NOAH
  1. He was a preacher of righteousness - wrote Peter of him, "A preacher of righteousness" - 2 Peter 4:4-5
    1. He warned his generation against the pending doom of the wicked - preaching the gospel of salvation for 120 years - Gen. 6:3
    2. To him was given A Time Message - as God has a remnant in the last days, who proclaims a time message - Rev. 14:6-11
    3. But even as now, few paid any attention to the warning by Noah, until it was too late - Matt. 24:36-39
  2. His heaven given assignments were twofold:
    1. To build an ark for the saving of his own house or family
    2. "By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house" - Heb. 11:7
    3. This is the one assignment to every preacher of righteousness - to build a faith that will save his own family
  3. Noah was perfect in his generation:
    1. But his perfection was by the grace of God, as everyone must obtain it - Gen. 6:8
    2. There were times when he was overcome by sin - Gen. 9:20-29
C. TIME LESSON FOR US TODAY
  1. God has had a small remnant in all ages:
    1. Who carried the torch of truth in an age of spiritual decay and darkness
    2. Said Jesus, "Ye are the light of the world" - Matt. 5:14; "Ye are my witnesses" - Is. 43:10; "Ye are the salt of the earth" - Matt. 5:13
  2. Noah was "a preacher of righteousness"
    1. Not human righteousness, because man's righteousness is unacceptable to God - compare Isaiah 64:6-7 with Romans 5:17-18; 10:1-3
    2. It is the gift of God through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our righteousness - I Cor. 1:30-31; Jer. 23:6
  3. That Noah, the second oldest man on earth, walked with God:
    1. In the midst of overwhelming moral corruption is proof that one can live an upright life in this world even though sin prevails in the lives of others
    2. But the great secret of the godly life of Noah, was in his simple faith in the revelation by faith
  4. The story of Noah has a special lesson for God's remnant church:
    1. The Son of God foretold that the closing days of earth's history would be like the days of Noah - compare Matt. 24:36-39 with 2 Tim. 3:1-5; I Tim. 4:1-3
    2. This is a time when each person must live his faith in the face of constant enticement by Satan and his agencies - Matt. 24:12-13; 24:24
    3. Our faith must be centered in the word of God; we cannot be guided by visible or tangible evidences
    4. Noah's faith was tested; there were no visible signs to indicate his predictions of a flood; not until the eight days after he entered the ark
    5. Neither can the people of God base their lives upon earthly evidences, but on faith in God's work only
