A BIBLE CHRISTIAN: A SUPERMAN
A. "THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS LIKE TO A GRAIN OF MUSTARD SEED,
WHICH A MAN TOOK, AND SOWED HIS FIELD: WHICH INDEED IS THE LEAST
OF ALL SEEDS: BUT WHEN IT IS GROWN, IT IS THE GREATEST AMONG THE
HERBS, AND BECOMETH A TREE, SO THAT THE BIRDS OF THE AIR COME AND
LODGE IN THE BRANCHES THEREOF."
- The story of the mustard seed embodies another great truth about the kingdom of heaven:
- The great potential in the life of the one entering into the kingdom
- It is, as it were, the key to the great transformation of the Christian believer.
- The one, entering into the experience of the kingdom, may be very insignificant to the observing eye, but:
- The life giving power of the Word of God, unseen by the human mind, is a power to be dealt with
- The history of the church of God is repleat with examples
B. A BIBLE CHRISTIAN: A SUPERMAN
- Experience shows:
- The man of the kingdom passes the normal human limit in his command of moral strength and
- In the wealth of his moral resources
- Examples: David was possessed of the moral resources, unknown in the army of Israel - I Sam. 17:45; Samson had these powers for a time - Judges 16:3
- The man of the kingdom is possessed of the vitality that passes the ordinary human bounds in his self-sacrifice:
- That explains Paul's determination to go to Jerusalem - Acts 21:13
- That was the great secret of Stephen giving his life for the gospel of the kingdom - Acts 7:60
- Note the immortal panorama of the martyrs of Christ as recorded in Hebrews 12:29-40
- The sons of the kingdom transcend all human limitations in their grip of God and powers of the unseen world:
- Elisha is a typical example - 2 Kings 6:17
- Peter is still another - Acts 9:40
- The three Hebrews - Dan. 3:16-18
C. TWO GREAT SECRETS WHICH MAKE THE CHRISTIAN BELIEVER A SUPERMAN
- The indwelling word of God:
- It is very powerful - Heb. 4:12
- It is likened unto a hammer - Jer. 23:29
- The indwelling of the Holy Spirit:
- "Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord" - Zech. 4:6
- Men moved by the Holy Spirit are God's supermen
- Examples: Elijah - I Kings 18:25-46; Paul and Silas - Acts 16:25-34
- A mighty lesson for God's children in all ages:
- When we accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, a transformation begins in our life that transcends all human expectations
- We become new creatures--that means new beings, passing the bounds of human experience
- Thus it is clear that Christ's superman is the product of the gospel of the kingdom, and not the fruitage of personal human effort.
- This is the great secret of true Bible Christianity
- What is amazing is that God is no respecter of persons:
- "Whosoever will" may become a superman - Rev. 22:17
- The potentials of becoming a superman are found in our relationship to Jesus Christ, our Lord - Col. 1:27
- Without a living connection of Christ there is weakness and final decay - Rom. 7:22-26
- Dear reader:
- Can you see the divine wisdom of the Son of God to compare the kingdom of heaven to the mustard seed - so small, when measured by human standards, yet so powerful when put into the ground and tended to
- Thus we see that nothing is impossible for one having a living connection with Jesus Christ
- The mustard seed left to itself is powerless; it must be put into an environment to become alive with power to grow and become a tree
