GOD'S REMEDY FOR SIN
A. "HE WAS WOUNDED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS, HE WAS BRUISED FOR OUR
INIQUITIES; THE CHASTISEMENT OF OUR PEACE WAS UPON HIM; AND WITH
HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED"
- Bible students see in Isaiah 53 a complete divine revelation of:
- The plan of redemption
- Our sins and God's remedy
- That chapter portrays:
- The awfulness of sin And Heaven's price to atone for it B. SIN AND HOW IT AFFECTS THE UNIVERSE
- Sin - what is it? -- the Bible says:
- "Sin is the transgression of the Law" - I John 3:4
- "All unrighteousness is sin" - I John 5:17
- "Whatsoever is not of faith is sin" - Rom. 14:23
- How sin affects the universe:
- It wounded the Creator of the universe - "He was wounded for our transgressions"
- It broke His heart - "Reproach hath broken my heart" - Ps. 69:20
- It bruised His body - "He was bruised for our iniquities:
- It caused man to rebel against His Maker - I Sam. 15:23
- It separates man from God - Is. 59:1-3
- It brought the curse upon this earth - Gen 3:17; Is. 24:1-14
- It ends all in death and destruction - Rom. 6:23; Gen. 6: 1-9
- God's Remedy for sin:
- He made Him sin who knew no sin - 2 Cor. 5:21; Is. 53:4-12
- He made Him a curse, who did not deserve it - Gal. 3:13
- He had Him taste death, who is the life of men - Heb. 2:9; John 1:4; Acts 17:28
- All this and more is the effect of sin and God's remedy for sin C. OUR HEALING - "WITH HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED"
- It is a simple fact:
- That the suffering of Jesus Christ is God's remedy for our ills
- It reveals sin in all its hideousness
- It paints the suffering of Christ in the garden and on the cross in the brightest colors
- The suffering of Christ on the shameful cross:
- Is Heaven's appeal to sinners to repent of sin and turn away from it
- It is man's only hope to be healed from the diseases caused by sin; Example: the brazen serpent and the life of the Israelites - Num 21:9; John 3:14 3: Note the seven-fold affect of God's remedy for sin:
- It brings reconciliation of the sinner to His maker and redeemer - Eph. 2:16; Col. 1:20; 2 Cor. 5:18
- It atones for God's broken law - Rom. 5:11; 8:1-7. Christ satisfied the claims of the broken law by paying the penalty of the transgression of that law. Gal. 3:13
- It brings a change of heart to the penitent sinner; Examples: the thief on the cross - Luke 23:42-44; the conversion of three thousand on the day of Pentecost - Acts 2:37
- It changes man's attitude toward God and sin - John 3:16
- It makes new creatures out of former sinners - 2 Cor. 5:17; John 3:3-9
- It abolishes sin and death - I Cor. 15:51-57; Heb. 2:14-17
- Hit restores eternal harmony in the universe; makes all things new, banishes forever the past by making all things new - Rev. 22:1-7; 21:1-6; 21:1-11
- Is it then a wonder why the plan of redemption will be the chief subject for study by the redeemed throughout all eternity?
