GOD'S REMEDY FOR SIN

ISAIAH 53:5

A. "HE WAS WOUNDED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS, HE WAS BRUISED FOR OUR INIQUITIES; THE CHASTISEMENT OF OUR PEACE WAS UPON HIM; AND WITH HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED"
  1. Bible students see in Isaiah 53 a complete divine revelation of:
    1. The plan of redemption
    2. Our sins and God's remedy
  2. That chapter portrays:
    1. The awfulness of sin And Heaven's price to atone for it B. SIN AND HOW IT AFFECTS THE UNIVERSE
  3. Sin - what is it? -- the Bible says:
    1. "Sin is the transgression of the Law" - I John 3:4
    2. "All unrighteousness is sin" - I John 5:17
    3. "Whatsoever is not of faith is sin" - Rom. 14:23
  4. How sin affects the universe:
    1. It wounded the Creator of the universe - "He was wounded for our transgressions"
    2. It broke His heart - "Reproach hath broken my heart" - Ps. 69:20
    3. It bruised His body - "He was bruised for our iniquities:
    4. It caused man to rebel against His Maker - I Sam. 15:23
    5. It separates man from God - Is. 59:1-3
    6. It brought the curse upon this earth - Gen 3:17; Is. 24:1-14
    7. It ends all in death and destruction - Rom. 6:23; Gen. 6: 1-9
  5. God's Remedy for sin:
    1. He made Him sin who knew no sin - 2 Cor. 5:21; Is. 53:4-12
    2. He made Him a curse, who did not deserve it - Gal. 3:13
    3. He had Him taste death, who is the life of men - Heb. 2:9; John 1:4; Acts 17:28
    4. All this and more is the effect of sin and God's remedy for sin C. OUR HEALING - "WITH HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED"
  6. It is a simple fact:
    1. That the suffering of Jesus Christ is God's remedy for our ills
    2. It reveals sin in all its hideousness
    3. It paints the suffering of Christ in the garden and on the cross in the brightest colors
  7. The suffering of Christ on the shameful cross:
    1. Is Heaven's appeal to sinners to repent of sin and turn away from it
    2. It is man's only hope to be healed from the diseases caused by sin; Example: the brazen serpent and the life of the Israelites - Num 21:9; John 3:14 3: Note the seven-fold affect of God's remedy for sin:
    3. It brings reconciliation of the sinner to His maker and redeemer - Eph. 2:16; Col. 1:20; 2 Cor. 5:18
    4. It atones for God's broken law - Rom. 5:11; 8:1-7. Christ satisfied the claims of the broken law by paying the penalty of the transgression of that law. Gal. 3:13
    5. It brings a change of heart to the penitent sinner; Examples: the thief on the cross - Luke 23:42-44; the conversion of three thousand on the day of Pentecost - Acts 2:37
    6. It changes man's attitude toward God and sin - John 3:16
    7. It makes new creatures out of former sinners - 2 Cor. 5:17; John 3:3-9
    8. It abolishes sin and death - I Cor. 15:51-57; Heb. 2:14-17
    9. Hit restores eternal harmony in the universe; makes all things new, banishes forever the past by making all things new - Rev. 22:1-7; 21:1-6; 21:1-11
  8. Is it then a wonder why the plan of redemption will be the chief subject for study by the redeemed throughout all eternity?
