IS GOD PARTICULAR?
A. WHEN WE THINK OF GOD
- We realize that His Name and His Character are portrayed in the Bible: Ex. 34:6, 7; Num. 14:8
- The scriptures express His attitude toward sin: Heb. 10:31; 2
Cor. 5:11
- This knowledge ought to inspire us with reverence and holy awe - Ps. 4:4; 33:8
- We ought to learn from the Angels how to reverence God -
Isa. 6; Ps. 103:20
- "God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence and awe" - Ps. 89:7
- "Let them praise thy great and terrible name" - Ps. 99:3
- "Holy and reverent is His name" - Ps. 111:9
B. HOW PARTICULAR IS GOD?
- He is no respecter of persons:
- Ask His friends -
- Moses knows - Ex. 4:24-26; Ps. 106:32
- The man of God paid the penalty for disregarding the command of God - 1 Ki. 13:21-26
- Uzza perished because he disregarded the commandment of the Lord - 1 Chron. 13:9
- We are warned on this point - Acts 10:34, 35; 2 Sam. 14:14; 1 Cor. 10:4-11
- Ask his enemies -
- Pharaoh learned his lesson.
- Sennacherib king of Assyria, too, learned a painful lesson when he defied God - Isa. 37:36
- Ask His friends -
- Loving obedience is the law of life:
- Read these references to see how God looks upon disobedience - 1 Sam. 15:23; 1 Pet. 2:8; 2 Thess. 1:7, 8
- Obedience to the perfect will of God is the aim of the gospel - Rom. 16:26
- Faith in Christ will lead to obedience - Rom. 16:26
- Loving obedience is a sign of a true Christian:
- That is what John taught - 1 John 2:4-7; 5:4, 5
- Read Rev. 12:17; 14:12; 22:14
C. WHY THIS SUBJECT
- The battle over the claims of the Sabbath of the fourth
commandment:
- Some people think that the Sabbath of the fourth commandment is not too important; that if we rest on one day in seven, that will be acceptable to God.
- But read these Bible texts to learn how God looks upon
partial obedience -
- Matt. 7:21-26
- Ps. 50:16-22
- Matt. 5:17-20
- Mark 7:7-13
- The attitude toward God's law determines our true attitude toward God - Isa. 8:20; 30:8, 9; 1 John 2:4-7
- The history of God's ancient covenant people holds some very
important lessons for God's modern people:
- That is what Paul teaches - Rom. 15:4; 1 Cor. 10:4-11; Heb. 4:1-11
- Over seven hundred thousand men left Egypt on their way to the promised land, but only two of them ever made it to the promised land. Why?
- The Bible teaches that:
- The transgression of God's law is sin - 1 John 3:4; Rom. 3:21; 7:7
- Sin, or the transgression of God's law, is enmity toward God - Rom. 8:1-7
- The wages of sin is death - Rom. 6:23
- Yes, God is particular:
- Nature itself teaches that God is particular - Ps. 19:1-6
- God's laws, natural and moral, teach us that God is particular - Gal. 6:7, 8
- The death of Christ emphasizes how particular God is - Gal. 3:13
