"MY TIMES ARE IN THY HANDS"

PSALMS 31:1

A. "MY TIMES ARE IN THY HAND"
  1. My times:
    1. That is the changes that await me - "All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come" - Job 14:14
    2. "Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass" - Job 14:5
  2. When we ponder the fact:
    1. That our times are with the Lord
    2. We know that we are in good hands, because God is love and love will not willingly cut off our days B. MY TIMES ARE WITH THEE
  3. The Bible teaches very plainly:
    1. That our days are numbered - "The days of our years threescore years and ten" - Ps. 90:10
    2. "So teach us to number our days" - Ps. 90:12
    3. It is awe-inspiring to realize that each day when the sun sets we are forcefully reminded of the final sun set that comes to all living
  4. The brighter side of our subject title is:
    1. That God has given us a work to do, and so long as that work remains - nothing can cut us off
    2. This may seem fatalism, but it is true just the same; if we are in the service of the Lord and he gives us an assignment, he will see to it that nothing will disrupt our services
  5. Our days are in God's hand:
    1. This knowledge should cause us to be glad and think of our times as the gift of God
    2. My personal life is the gracious gift of heaven - each day I am forcefully reminded that had it not been for the mercies of God, I would not be in the land of the living
  6. It is reassuring to us to know:
    1. That my life is in the complete control of God from the cradle to the grave
    2. He brought me into this world to fulfill a purpose to the glory of His name C. NOTEWORTHY IMPRESSION GATHERED FROM OUR TEXT
  7. We are time creatures:
    1. Our birth, our childhood, our youth, our middle age is measured by the element of time
    2. God our Creator ordained it to be that way and man cannot do anything about it
  8. This knowledge by us ought to teach us:
    1. To so order our lives that none of our precious moments are wasted or misused
    2. It is a sad fact that many people just waste their time or misuse it to their own detriment
    3. I am thinking in particular of youth today who do not even seem to know what to do with the time they have on their hands
  9. What is so sobering is:
    1. That we are going to have to give an account of how we employed our time
    2. That we shall have to answer for the misuse of time
  10. A wise approach to this subject:
    1. That we measure our times by our dedication to do good unto our fellowmen
    2. That we ask for counsel day be day - counsel from the Lord to teach us how best to use the time allotted to us
    3. It shall be well with us, if when our time is up we can testify with Paul, "the time of my departure is at hand, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but unto all them that love his appearing" - 2 Tim. 4:6-8
