"MY TIMES ARE IN THY HANDS"
A. "MY TIMES ARE IN THY HAND"
- My times:
- That is the changes that await me - "All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come" - Job 14:14
- "Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass" - Job 14:5
- When we ponder the fact:
- That our times are with the Lord
- We know that we are in good hands, because God is love and love will not willingly cut off our days B. MY TIMES ARE WITH THEE
- The Bible teaches very plainly:
- That our days are numbered - "The days of our years threescore years and ten" - Ps. 90:10
- "So teach us to number our days" - Ps. 90:12
- It is awe-inspiring to realize that each day when the sun sets we are forcefully reminded of the final sun set that comes to all living
- The brighter side of our subject title is:
- That God has given us a work to do, and so long as that work remains - nothing can cut us off
- This may seem fatalism, but it is true just the same; if we are in the service of the Lord and he gives us an assignment, he will see to it that nothing will disrupt our services
- Our days are in God's hand:
- This knowledge should cause us to be glad and think of our times as the gift of God
- My personal life is the gracious gift of heaven - each day I am forcefully reminded that had it not been for the mercies of God, I would not be in the land of the living
- It is reassuring to us to know:
- That my life is in the complete control of God from the cradle to the grave
- He brought me into this world to fulfill a purpose to the glory of His name C. NOTEWORTHY IMPRESSION GATHERED FROM OUR TEXT
- We are time creatures:
- Our birth, our childhood, our youth, our middle age is measured by the element of time
- God our Creator ordained it to be that way and man cannot do anything about it
- This knowledge by us ought to teach us:
- To so order our lives that none of our precious moments are wasted or misused
- It is a sad fact that many people just waste their time or misuse it to their own detriment
- I am thinking in particular of youth today who do not even seem to know what to do with the time they have on their hands
- What is so sobering is:
- That we are going to have to give an account of how we employed our time
- That we shall have to answer for the misuse of time
- A wise approach to this subject:
- That we measure our times by our dedication to do good unto our fellowmen
- That we ask for counsel day be day - counsel from the Lord to teach us how best to use the time allotted to us
- It shall be well with us, if when our time is up we can testify with Paul, "the time of my departure is at hand, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but unto all them that love his appearing" - 2 Tim. 4:6-8
