STANDING IN MY LOT
A. "BUT GO THY WAY TILL THE END BE; FOR THOU SHALT REST, AND
STAND IN THY LOT AT THE END OF DAYS"
- These were the closing instructions Gabriel gave to Daniel - a man greatly
loved by God and men:
- Daniel lived a long and exceptionally useful life to God and to God and to two of the largest nations on earth - Babylon and Medo-Persia
- He and John the Beloved were honored to see the unfolding and closing scenes of the great nations of the world
- Also, the forecast of the glorious triumph of Christ and His kingdom
- This was Heaven's reassurance to a faithful servant of God:
- Death meant to that man of God - rest from toil and trials
- His work was done, the victory was won and the reward of a lot in the world made new was assured B. THE LOT OF A FAITHFUL SERVANT OF GOD
- In this present life it is:
- A walk with God - that was true of Enoch Gen. 5:22-24; of Noah - Gen. 6:9; for the saints in all ages it was and is walking in the light even as He is in the light - I John 1:7
- To be God's faithful witness and that Daniel was to the nations - Is. 63:10
- To let His light so shine that men may see his good works and glorify God in heaven - and that Daniel was in the highest sense - Dan. 1:8; 6:10; Matt. 5:14-15
- To endure hardship and severe trials - that, too, was the lot of Daniel - in the lion's den - Dan. 6:16-23
- In the world to come:
- Eternal life - the gift of God to His faithful servants - Mark 10:28-30
- Said the Lord to Daniel, "Some to everlasting life" - Dan. 12:2
- He will hear the King of glory say, "Come blessed of My Father inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world" - Matt. 25:34 C. STANDING IN MY LOT
- How often our lot here in this present world:
- Seems unusually hard and trying - Examples: Said Jacob to Pharaoh, "The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years; few and evil have the days of the years of my life been" - Gen. 47:9; said Job, when speaking of the day of his birth, "Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it" - Job 3:1-11
- This is because in our humanity we are too short-sighted we cannot see the end from the beginning. Could we see the end from the beginning we would never complain of our lot in this present life
- Standing in my lot here in this life:
- God has designed that in this present life I shall live an upright and honest life
- "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good, and what doeth the Lord require of thee, but tot do justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God" - Mich. 6:8
- That was the testimony the Lord gave to Job - Job 1:1; 2:3
- And that was the testimony the angel gave of the lives of Zacharias and his wife Elizabeth - Luke 1:6
- Will God give me such a testimony in my present lot?
- My lot in the world to come:
- This is the point that gives me repeated and deep concern - to be a fellow heir in the kingdom of my Lord and Saviour
- When I look at my short-comings I am frightened; they are as yet many
- But when I think of my relationship to the Lord Jesus - my hope is bright - for Paul assures us that we are complete in Jesus - Col. 2:10
- "Christ in you the hope of glory" - Col. 1:27
- My lot in the world to come has been assured by the infinite sacrifice Christ made for me to assure me a place in His kingdom - said He to the penitent thief, "Verily, verily I say unto you today, thou shalt be with me in paradise" - Luke 23:42-43
