THE BLESSEDNESS OF TRUST
Part 1

A. "O LORD OF HOSTS, BLESSED IS THE MAN THAT TRUSTETH IN THEE"
  1. The Psalmist knew whereof he affirmed:
    1. When he speaks of the blessedness of trusting in God
    2. He experienced the trust in God when he cared for the few sheep of his father - I Sam. 17:34
    3. When he saved the lives of his sheep from the lion and the bear
  2. Also, when:
    1. He fought with Goliath, a mighty man of war - I Sam. 17:46-47
    2. When King Saul sought to slay him chasing him like a dog - I Sam. 26:20-28 B. THE BLESSEDNESS OF TRUST IN GOD
  3. Trust in God:
    1. To trust in God means that one does not lean on anyone or on anything else for safety - Ps. 73:23-28
    2. "O taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusteth in Him" - Ps. 34:8
    3. "Trust in him at all times; ye people pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us - Zelah" - Ps. 62:8
    4. "Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord God; Which made heaven and earth and the sea and all that therein is; which keepeth truth forever" - Ps. 146:5-6
  4. He who trusts the Lord God:
    1. Travels God's highway
    2. It is the way of truth - Ps. 119:30-32
    3. It is the way of life - Prov. 4:23; 6:23; 15:24; Jer. 21:8
    4. It is the way to Zion - Is. 35:8
  5. Trust in the Lord at all times:
    1. In the hour of sorrow too - Job 13:15; Jer. 31:12; I Thes. 4:13
    2. In the hour of great danger - Dan. 4:17-20; 6:10
    3. "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me" - Ps. 23:4 C. "BLESSED IS THE MAN THAT TRUSTETH IN THEE"
  6. We have noted, already, that the Psalmist speaks from personal experience:
    1. His life was full of occasions when his childlike trust in God saved the day for him, yea, his life
    2. Perhaps, no other man, save Job, was ever put to test, as David was in his youth in his reign as King over Israel
    3. And we must not forget, he had to trust the mercies of God when he sinned grievously against God - Ps. 51:55
  7. The words of our text are very timely for us living in the most difficult time:
    1. A time of great uncertainty
    2. A time of great danger
    3. A time when the people of God seem to be numbered be the cares of this life
  8. Do we show our simple trust in the God of Israel:
    1. When sorrow strikes us
    2. When sickness plagues us
    3. When men disappoint us in so many ways
  9. Let us take a prayerful look into the lives of God's people who learned to trust a wise Providence even when they simply had to look beyond this life:
    1. We think of Job - that severely tried man, "Though he slay me, yet will I trust him" Job 13:15
    2. We think of Paul and Silas praising God while they must have been in pain - Acts 16:25
    3. Then we must never forget the painful death of Stephen and his attitude toward those who killed him - Acts 7:60
  10. Blessed trust centers in our complete acceptance:
    1. That God will never allow his children to be tempted above that which we are able to bear - I Cor. 10:13
    2. That whatever God allows to come into our experience is for our good, for development of character - Rom. 8:28-39
    3. I realize that it is not easy to either understand or to follow; yet it is what the Bible teaches
