THE BLESSEDNESS OF TRUST
Part 1
Part 1
A. "O LORD OF HOSTS, BLESSED IS THE MAN THAT TRUSTETH IN THEE"
- The Psalmist knew whereof he affirmed:
- When he speaks of the blessedness of trusting in God
- He experienced the trust in God when he cared for the few sheep of his father - I Sam. 17:34
- When he saved the lives of his sheep from the lion and the bear
- Also, when:
- He fought with Goliath, a mighty man of war - I Sam. 17:46-47
- When King Saul sought to slay him chasing him like a dog - I Sam. 26:20-28 B. THE BLESSEDNESS OF TRUST IN GOD
- Trust in God:
- To trust in God means that one does not lean on anyone or on anything else for safety - Ps. 73:23-28
- "O taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusteth in Him" - Ps. 34:8
- "Trust in him at all times; ye people pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us - Zelah" - Ps. 62:8
- "Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord God; Which made heaven and earth and the sea and all that therein is; which keepeth truth forever" - Ps. 146:5-6
- He who trusts the Lord God:
- Travels God's highway
- It is the way of truth - Ps. 119:30-32
- It is the way of life - Prov. 4:23; 6:23; 15:24; Jer. 21:8
- It is the way to Zion - Is. 35:8
- Trust in the Lord at all times:
- In the hour of sorrow too - Job 13:15; Jer. 31:12; I Thes. 4:13
- In the hour of great danger - Dan. 4:17-20; 6:10
- "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me" - Ps. 23:4 C. "BLESSED IS THE MAN THAT TRUSTETH IN THEE"
- We have noted, already, that the Psalmist speaks from personal
experience:
- His life was full of occasions when his childlike trust in God saved the day for him, yea, his life
- Perhaps, no other man, save Job, was ever put to test, as David was in his youth in his reign as King over Israel
- And we must not forget, he had to trust the mercies of God when he sinned grievously against God - Ps. 51:55
- The words of our text are very timely for us living in the most difficult
time:
- A time of great uncertainty
- A time of great danger
- A time when the people of God seem to be numbered be the cares of this life
- Do we show our simple trust in the God of Israel:
- When sorrow strikes us
- When sickness plagues us
- When men disappoint us in so many ways
- Let us take a prayerful look into the lives of God's people who learned to
trust a wise Providence even when they simply had to look beyond this life:
- We think of Job - that severely tried man, "Though he slay me, yet will I trust him" Job 13:15
- We think of Paul and Silas praising God while they must have been in pain - Acts 16:25
- Then we must never forget the painful death of Stephen and his attitude toward those who killed him - Acts 7:60
- Blessed trust centers in our complete acceptance:
- That God will never allow his children to be tempted above that which we are able to bear - I Cor. 10:13
- That whatever God allows to come into our experience is for our good, for development of character - Rom. 8:28-39
- I realize that it is not easy to either understand or to follow; yet it is what the Bible teaches
