THE CITY WITHOUT TEARS
A. "AND GOD SHALL WIPE AWAY ALL TEARS FROM THEIR EYES; AND THERE
SHALL BE NO MORE DEATH, NEITHER SORROW, NOR CRYING, NEITHER
SHALL THERE BE ANY MORE PAIN; FOR THE FORMER THINGS HAVE PASSED
AWAY"
- The reading of this secret forecast of the New Jerusalem and its
environment seem so far removed from our present experience:
- Tears of deep anguish and sorrow mark every home, every church, and every city today
- Our cities have become the scenes of crime and violent deaths unheard of before
- The voice of weeping seems to have replace the voice of joy
- Our text is in truth:
- Ointment for the wounded heart; hope for all who sit in darkness - the day- star of the Christian hope
- One will do well to commit it to memory and rest in its promise when sorrow overtakes us B. THE CITY WITHOUT TEARS
- The cause of tears - our text enumerates a number of causes for the
shedding of tears:
- Pain - physical pain - heart-pain caused by bitter disappointment
- Sorrow caused by the loss of a loved one through death
- Death is in truth the main cause of tears that will invade every life, every home, and every city - no mortal is exempt
- New Jerusalem - the mother of us all - Gal. 4:26 is the city without tears:
- The cause of tears will have been removed
- Death will have been abolished - sin the root cause of death will have banished from the universe
- Complete harmony in the universe will have been restored
- The curse will have been removed from the earth
- The former things, sickness, sorrow, and death, will not even come into the memory of the redeemed "For the former things have passed away"
- Our finite mind has difficulty to comprehend this glorious truth C. THE NEW JERUSALEM - THE CITY WITHOUT TEARS
- Represent, in truth, the Paradise of God - the original garden of Eden:
- The original home of man - the Garden of Eden was removed from this earth after the fall of our first parents
- Paul saw it in the third heaven - 2 Cor. 12:1-3
- It is significant:
- That the tree of life is not mentioned after the fall until we come to the book of Revelation - Rev. 2:7-8
- The tree of life was originally in the Garden of Eden and is seen in the Paradise of God after all things have been made new - Rev. 22:1-6
- Also - the throne of God spoken of as the tabernacle of God:
- Will have been moved from the third heaven to the earth made new - Rev. 22
- The redeemed will come to worship in the New Jerusalem every Sabbath day - Is. 66:22-23
- There will be no night there - nor will it need the light of the sun, for the Lord of glory is in the midst of it
- Who will not be in the city without tears?
- Nothing that defiles will be there - Rev. 21:27
- "For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie" - Rev. 22:15
- Dear friend, will it be your privilege to be in the city without tears? Where the sorrows of earth will not even come into memory anymore?
