THE KING'S HIGHWAY
A. "AND AN HIGHWAY SHALL BE THERE, AND A WAY, AND IT SHALL BE
CALLED THE WAY OF HOLINESS; THE UNCLEAN SHALL NOT PASS OVER IT;
BUT IT SHALL BE FOR THOSE; THE WAYFARING MEN, THOUGH FOOLS SHALL
NOT ERR THEREIN"
- The background to this glowing forecast of the King's highway:
- Israel was in exile in far-off Babylon, sighing in their hearts out toward the City of Zion
- The heart cry was "When and how shall we be able to return home to Zion?"
- When they thought of their physical surroundings their hope failed and
their hearts became faint:
- It was at such a time that this stirring prophecy was given to rouse the hearts of God's people to new hope
- One of the most inspiring parts of this forecast is the construction of a highway through the desert B. BUT THIS WRITER BELIEVES THAT THE PROPHECY OF OUR TEXT IS MUCH MORE INCLUSIVE
- I love to believe that the prophecy includes the King's Highway to Heaven
and to the earth made new:
- Note the restriction connected with that highway - "the unclean shall not pass over it" - Is. 52:1; Joel 3:17
- Only the righteous have access to this highway - Is. 60:21
- They will be comparatively few - Matt. 7:13-14
- Nature of that highway:
- It is a plain way
- Some desert tracks are so difficult to follow that it takes an expert tracker to make them out
- Not so with the King's Highway "the wayfaring men, though fools shall not err" - Ps. 25:9
- It is lighted all the way - Prov. 4:18. Angels will guide the saints in their travel to the City of our God.
- It is a safe way - "No lion shall be there, nor ravenous beast shall go up thereon"
- It is a Homeward Way - It promises a safe arrival at the journey's end "The ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads" - Is. 35:10; 51:11 C. WHAT A PREVIEW OF THE KING'S HIGHWAY TO GLORY LAND
- The Lord Jesus has a lot to say about the King's Highway:
- He speaks of it as "narrow" - Matt. 7:13-14 with a "straight gate" as the entrance
- Herodians complimented the Lord by saying "we know that Thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth" - Matt. 22:16
- He proclaims boldly, "I am the way" - John 14:6
- The Holy Bible is God's road map to guide the children of God to their
final destination the New Jerusalem:
- How important it is that we consult this road map of the Lord and with much prayer - John 5:39
- We should make sure that we are on the King's Highway to the promised land
- There is a way which seemeth right, but it misleads the pilgrims - Prov. 16:25
- God's way is so different - Is. 55:9
