"THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL BE IN EVERLASTING REMEMBRANCE"


A. "A GOOD MAN SHEWETH FAVOR AND LENDETH; HE WILL GUIDE HIS AFFAIRS WITH DISCRETION. SURELY HE SHALL NOT BE MOVED FOREVER; THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL BE IN EVERLASTING REMEMBRANCE" - PS. 112:5-6
  1. Bible readers will note that the Psalmist gives strong and continued emphasis to the life of a good man:
    1. "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly" - Ps. 1:1- 6
    2. "God is angry with the wicked" - Ps. 7:11
    3. "The wicked shall be turned into hell" - Ps. 9:17 B. THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL BE IN EVERLASTING REMEMBRANCE
  2. They have made an everlasting impression upon God and men:
    1. Of Abraham God hath said, "In thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed" - Gen. 12:3
    2. Naomi and Ruth and their deeds have immortalized their names - Ruth 1:1- 18
    3. Jochebed immortalized her name by her daring ingenuity to save the life of Moses thus giving him to the cause of Israel's deliverance from Egyptian bondage - Ex. 2:1-9
    4. Mary made her deed immortal when she took a costly ointment and anointed the Lord for his burial - Mark 14:3-9
  3. Factors in the life of a good person that perpetuates his or her memory:
    1. Their good influence upon others - Examples: - Dorcas made her deeds immortal by working for the poor widows - Acts 9:36-42
    2. The poor widow made the memory of her sacrifice to the Lord immortal - Mark 12:41-44
    3. Zacchaeus became an unforgettable example of true conversion - Luke 19:1- 9
    4. Of the righteous God had said, "Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with them" - Is. 3:10 C. FACTORS THAT MAKE THE MEMORY OF THE RIGHTEOUS UNFORGETTABLE
  4. Their influence they leave behind makes their memory unforgettable:
    1. The faith of Abraham transplanted itself into the lives of God's people in all ages - Gen. 12:1-4; Rom. 4:1-16; Gal. 3:7, 26-28
    2. Joseph perpetuated his memory with his life in Egypt - as a slave - Gen. 39:1-9; in prison - Gen. 40; his attitude toward his brethren - Gen. 43; 45; 50
    3. Paul perpetuated his memory by his conversion and by his ministry in the spoken word and by the fourteen letters he wrote to the churches
  5. Their relationship with Christ perpetuates their memory:
    1. Their name is written in the book of life - Phil. 4:3; Rev. 3:5; 21:27
    2. Said the Lord through the prophet, Isaiah, "Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of My hands" - Is. 49:16
    3. The marks of the Lord in his hands are an everlasting reminder to Him of His love and attachment to the righteous - Is. 49:15
  6. Dear sorrowing ones:
    1. Your godly parent has been taken from you, but his memory will stay with you and your posterity for years to come
    2. The loving sacrifice for you will be a constant reminder to you of one who cared
    3. His prayer for his family will linger on a long time
    4. Best of all will be the family reunion that will take place at the second coming of our blessed Lord
  7. It does make a difference:
    1. How we live
    2. Our connection with the Lord Jesus Christ
    3. "For their works do follow them" is the message from heaven - Rev. 14:13
