TRUTH WILL OUT
A. "THERE IS NOTHING COVERED THAT SHALL NOT BE REVEALED; AND HIS,
THAT SHALL NOT BE KNOWN"
- Experience - life itself - attest to the truth of the words of the Son of God:
- Cain had slain Abel, his brother; his brother's blood made the crime of Cain known - Gen. 4:20
- Moses slew the Egyptian; thought that his sin would remain hidden; but the very man he thought to defend made the crime known - Ex. 2:12-14
- Our Lord emphasized the above truth on different occasions:
- Mark 2:22
- Luke 8:17; 12:2
- The Saviour spoke these words to encourage the disciples to preach the
gospel of the kingdom:
- They faced stiff opposition from the clergy of their day
- Rejection of their message by many would tend to discourage them B. TRUTH WILL OUT
- This fact is awe-inspiring:
- "My word...shall not return void unto me" - Is. 55:10-11
- "My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure" - Is. 46:10
- "I will work, and who shall let it?" Is. 43:13
- This ought to embolden God's messengers not to become intimidated by
the dreadening of the enemies of the truth:
- Think of the apostles - Acts 4:18-19; 5:27-29
- "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper" - Is. 54:15-17
- "I speak forth the words of truth" - Acts 26:25
- Truth is irrepressible:
- "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My word shall not pass away" - Matt. 24:35
- "It is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than one title of the law to fail" - Luke 16:17
- The words of our opening text are heaven's assurance:
- Against failure in the ministry - I Cor. 15:58
- That truth will out, regardless of all opposition - Jer. 23:29 C. THERE IS ANOTHER SIDE TO THE DIVINE PRINCIPLE OF OUR OPENING TEXT
- What is within will come out:
- The secret things of the heart will make their presence felt
- We often imagine or speak of the past that it is dead; but there is an old adage which says, "Done, but not done with"
- "What a man soweth that shall he also reap" - Gal. 6:6-8
- A nail driven into the wood will leave its mark
- "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh" - Matt. 12:34; Luke 6:45
- It is just as true that a Christ like spirit will out:
- What is in us of His nature will come out; "The light shineth in darkness, and the darkness could not smother it" - John 1:5 - Phillips Brooks
- There are times when one feels that our witness for the truth is so ineffective, yet truth will out - sow the see, and God will give the harvest
- Truth will out:
- This ought to cause us sober reflection in all we do - either in secret or otherwise
- It must cause us to think twice before we act
- One may be able to cover up a deed for years, yet truth will out - all things are naked before the all-seeing eyes of God - Ps. 139:1-11
- Truth is a two edged sword; works both ways - Heb. 4:12
- It is wonderful to be on the side of truth:
- It cannot be defeated, no matter what the weapons against it may be
- Jesus Christ is the embodiment of truth, that is the secret of the power of truth - John 14:6
