"WAIT THOU UPON THE LORD"
A. "MY SOUL WAIT THOU UPON THE LORD; FOR MY EXPECTATION IS FROM
HIM"
PSALMS 62:5-6
- The writings of David are noted:
- For communion with his own heart speaking to himself
- It was sort of self-admonition and exhortation of his own person
- Note two important statements by David:
- He admonishes others in these words, "Stand in awe, and sin not; commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still" - Ps. 4:4
- "I call to remembrance my song in the night; I commune with mine own heart; and my spirit diligent search" Ps. 77:6
B. WAIT THOU UPON THE LORD
- What does the Psalmist mean by the word "Wait":
- To wait upon the Lord means to trust His guidance - Ps. 32:8
- To wait upon the Lord means to look to Him for help at all times - Ps. 121:1-3
- To wait upon the Lord means to serve Him, walking in all His ways - Luke 1:5-6; Job 1:1-3
- The prayer season is the chief channel for us to wait upon the Lord:
- Meet him in the closet - "But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly" - Matt. 6:6
- Meet Him in the congregation of the saints - compare - Ps. 82:1 with Heb. 10:26; these are the Lord's own appointments and our privilege to wait upon Him there
- Wait upon Him in the night watch - "When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches" - Ps. 63:6
- Trust in Him always:
- "Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass" - Ps. 37:5
- How different would our life be, if we followed the instructions of the above admonition
C. "WAIT THOU UPON THE LORD"
- How timely and how needful is this Divinely inspired admonition:
- How distorted and confusing is our concept of man's relation to His Creator and Redeemer
- It seems that little - big word "Wait" is too difficult for us in so many ways
- We find it difficult to wait upon the Lord:
- In the early morning watch - our minds are upon the ever pressing cares of this life and we become restless and find it difficult to take time to pray
- We are confused as to which duty should come first in our life - waiting upon the Lord, or waiting upon the cares of this life - Luke 21:34-35
- How it humbles my own heart to think that there are occasions when the pressures of life beclouded my early morning devotions
- Seven good reasons why we always must wait upon the Lord first:
- In Him we live, more hand have our being compare Acts 17:28 with I Sam. 25:29; Job 12:10; Ps. 36:9
- The Lord admonishes us to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness first and all we are in need of will be added unto us - Matt. 6:33
- We, our life and all our time belong to God to begin with, therefore, it is only reasonable that we give Him our first attention and service - "My times are in thine hand" - Ps. 31:15
- Where our heart is - there will be our affections first and last - if our heart is with the Lord - then it follows that we will wait upon Him first - Matt. 13:44
- If we truly love the Lord with our whole heart, we will want to give Him ourselves first - Deut. 6:4-8
- To walk with God means that we fellowship with him every waking moment of our life
- Waiting upon the Lord is the most rewarding and for that reason alone the most reasonable
